Profile - John Walker
Mr. Walker has more than twenty-five years experience developing and delivering highly technical learning solutions for software developers and IT professionals. He is recognized as an extremely effective educator willing to tackle difficult challenges and deliver results on time and on budget. His technical skill set includes: operating system internals, programming, software development methodology, and networking services.
Mr. Walker began his career with the Santa Cruz Operation (SCO) where he delivered SCO Linux and SCO UNIX technical training. He also was instrumental in setting up and delivering SCO’s authorized training program. Additionally, he set up an international technical marketing team focusing on Latin America, Asia, and Australia. During that time, he was a frequent speaker at international conferences and events. He used his Spanish language skills to address several conferences in Latin America.
Later, Mr, Walker worked with Univel and Novell where he developed and delivered UnixWare Technical training. He rolled out “train the trainer” learning and certification in the United States, Europe, and Asia.
During his nearly 15 years at Cisco Systems, Mr. Walker led a team that updated Cisco’s router configuration courses. Following this work, he focused his efforts on technical training for Cisco’s software engineers. During this period, he developed and delivered classes on software development for Cisco’s various network operating systems. He created hands-on courses on programming in Cisco IOS and Cisco IOS XR. His courses also include software design, methodology, and tools. They have been developed for in-person, instructor-led training, for video-based training, for virtual training, and for web-based training.
Mr. Walker used his strong team leadership skills in a number of ways at Cisco. During a three-month assignment to Bangalore, he was instrumental in setting up an international training team that included members in Bangalore and Shanghai. Most recently, he led a team of eight in the development of training on NX-OS programming.
Most recently, Mr. Walker has worked on developing training for TrendMicro’s Email Security Platform for Service Providers.
